Unequal Opportunities Affects Educational Outcomes and Individual Success
The line “All men are created equal” is emphasized a lot nowadays. This phrase has inspired many social movements, religious movements, and revolutions to fight for equal opportunities. These efforts are committed to passing the idea that everyone, regardless of interests, background, and race, is expected to benefit rightfully from equal life opportunities. Eliminating racial discrimination will create more chances for minorities to succeed in world fortunes. That’s why every student deserves to benefit from equality of opportunities. Equality of opportunities contributes to educational success, and inequality of opportunities increases academic failure.
Unequal opportunities in learning institutions negatively affect academic success by denying students access to high-quality educational requirements. Deserving individuals are denied essentials like high-quality education, a common curriculum every child needs, and educational resources because of society’s unfair treatment of a particular group of people in learning institutions. Pressures linked to discrimination increase the achievement gap and students’ access to success opportunities. Family background and discrimination are excellent sources of significant inequalities. Individuals denied good educational opportunities due to disparities are likely to experience academic failure. (Huber and Rita 183) When that happens, such students will have trouble in civic participation, the labor market, and their overall well-being will be affected.
Unequal opportunities reduce educational success by disengaging students from school, leading to poor outcomes like less likelihood of school enrolment. According to Linda Darling Hammond, minorities in less disadvantaged places have fewer resources and opportunities. The writer suggests that discrimination has contributed to this factor. While this point may be valid, the main fact is, Low-income regions have a greater success gap because of inexperienced and less qualified teachers, fewer resources, and low-quality education systems. The main cause is inadequate educational requirements due to the poor economy. So poverty is the main cause more than racial discrimination concern. (Oguno and Wordu 5) The inability to afford education fees due to poverty is a big obstacle for many students. As a result, academic achievement is devalued.
All individuals deserve equality of educational opportunities. Experiencing discrimination affects students’ performance, academic opportunities, and access to resources. A high degree of inequality has largely impacted students’ accessibility to resources and knowledge. Equality of educational opportunity requires that high-quality educational services are accessible to all, respectful of their interests and abilities. Therefore, increasing educational efficiency and quality is the solution.
